Winemaking: An equal blend of Syrah, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon heralding from the oldest vines at Château Constantin – some tipping 50 years old. Each variety is fermented and vinified individually followed by precise ageing in different forms of oak. The Syrah is housed in 3-year-old Burgundy barrels, Grenache in large wooden foudre and the Cabernet Sauvignon is suitably rested in Bordeaux casks. The cuvées are then blended together and harmonised in stainless steel prior to bottling.
Tasting Notes: A nose of Morello cherries and savoury white pepper is balanced by the minerality driven from the pebbles and stony soils from which the vines erupt. The palate offers wonderful depth, enhanced by the varying forms of oak which are carefully adopted. Powerful dark fruit flavours of blackcurrant and cherries from the ‘vielles vignes’ are supported by layers of spice and savoury toasty notes. The medley of oak ensures its influence is not overbearing but perfectly balanced, providing structure and flavour that complements the fruit and the moreish velvety mouthfeel. Varieties: Syrah (33%), Grenache (33%) & Cabernet Sauvignon (33%)
