Tasting Note: A Tuscan red packed with cherries and raspberries, finishing with a perfumed note of spice.
Food Matching: A blend of fruitiness and spice makes this the perfect accompaniment to game dishes. Try a vension pie with dried cranberries, or a duck ragu with five spice.
Vineyard: Montalcino, an ancient and fascinating Sienese village of Etruscan origin, lies amongst a forest of oak trees at an altitude of 600m. On a hill at the border of this region, named Poggio del Sasso – or ‘pebbles peak’ – Sangiovese grapes perform particularly well for the winegrowers of Da Vinci, and nowhere is it better exemplified than in their Brunito Rosso.
Vinification: Parcels of Sangiovese and Merlot are picked separately but crushed together, after which they are pressed and then macerated on skins for 8-10 days. The juice was fermented at a controlled temperature of 28-30°C with frequent and gentle pumping over, extracting a good amount of colour and tannin & giving the wine great structure.
